Heal the root causes of stress and anxiety

12 Signs your nervous system needs extra support

Published 10 months ago • 2 min read

Hey Reader,

Could chronic stress be impacting your mental and physical health without you even knowing it?

The short answer is yes.

Unfortunately, chronic stress has become so normalized that most people don't even realize that they're suffering unnecessarily.

Here's what's going on:

Chronic stress happens when you have repeated exposure to stressful situations that you can't escape or process afterwards. Stress patterns then get embedded in your nervous system, and you end up in a state of constant high alert, operating in survival mode instead of showing up for life with the joy, love, and open enthusiasm you want.

But this is not normal or healthy.

Your stress response is only supposed to be activated for short bouts of time, when you're actually under threat. These are the moments that your sympathetic nervous system was made for. But once the threat is passed, your parasympathetic nervous system's rest-and-digest mode is supposed to become dominant again, because this is what allows the majority of your body's physiological functions to run smoothly.

When you live with chronic stress, however, all of your body's systems end up getting hijacked. Your blood sugar becomes unstable, your blood pressure goes up, and eventually other symptoms start to show up, too.

Here are 12 symptoms to look out for that tell you your nervous system needs extra support:

  1. Insomnia (anything less than 8 hours of restful sleep/night)
  2. Exhaustion (with or without insomnia)
  3. Digestive trouble (gas, bloating, heart burn, loose stools, constipation)
  4. Change in appetite, weight loss or weight gain
  5. Headaches
  6. Brain-fog
  7. Aches, pains, muscle tension
  8. Menstrual irregularity, including cramps
  9. Low libido
  10. Anxiety
  11. Explosive anger
  12. Irritability, mood swings

Luckily, even amidst all of the stressors of modern life, there are strategies you can use to rewire your nervous system so you can meet life with more ease, strength, and grace.

The first steps are really very simple.

You want to adjust your diet and lifestyle to make sure your basic needs are being met so your body doesn't have to deal with any more stress that it's already got.

Here are 3 things to prioritize:

  1. Good quality sleep. Click here to read some tips on how to get more sleep when your mind won't shut up.
  2. Daily exercise.
  3. A gut-healthy diet.

It's amazing what a difference just these 3 can make!

But while they'll help you reduce your daily stress load, they're not enough to help you rewire the stress patterns that are stored in your nervous system.

To really get to the root of stress and anxiety, you need to go deeper.

Which is why I created Healing Through Anxiety, an online course that's specifically designed to help you rewire your nervous system.

Healing Through Anxiety gives you access to a collection of the most powerful healing practices I have found that have helped me, my patients, and countless others heal the root causes of their own stress and anxiety.

You also get access to the foundation videos, which explain where anxiety comes from, some of the theory that informs this method of healing, and gives you explanations for how all of the healing practices work.

Enrollment in Healing Through Anxiety is closing next week, on Wednesday, July 19 at 9 p.m. PST.

I'm revamping the program, and the price will be going up significantly the next time the doors open to accommodate these changes.

But, Reader, if you enroll before next week you won't have to pay anything extra. You'll have lifetime access to all the material so long as the program exists, including any improvements.

Want to know if it's right for you?

Here's what one participant had to say:

“I can tell that I’m going to be continuing to learn and discover new things about myself and living this life for months and years to come from doing this program. Thank you SO MUCH, Katerina, for all the work you put into making this happen and making it such a deep and rewarding experience for all of us. It’s truly felt like a gift.”

Hey Reader, A lot of people come to me with symptoms that conventional medical doctors have no good answers for. Chronic sinusitis? Throw a decongestant and some Advil at it. Migraines? Let's put you on birth control, caffeine pills, and prescription pain medications to see if anything changes. Anxiety and insomnia? No problem. There are drugs to numb those feelings and knock you out. Of course I'm being facetious. Pharmaceuticals can be life-saving, and you will often hear me singing modern...

Hey Reader, If you’ve come to see me in clinic recently, there’s a good chance we’ve talked about ways to support your body, mind, and spirit as we transition from winter to spring. Just as the weather can be fickle this time of year, sometimes it takes people a little time to acclimate. If you have too much cold still stuck in your system from winter, or you don’t have enough energy to push past the obstructions that will inevitably stand in your way in spring, you’ll feel the impact on both...

Hey Reader, I am not one to brag about exhaustion. I don’t wear busyness as a badge of honor (as so many are wont do in our society). If you ever hear me lament that I’ve had too much to do and too little rest, it’s because some deeper part of my psyche hopes that the act of voicing my overwhelm will somehow relieve it. This was often the case over the past month. With 2 small children, my life is already full to the brim with activity under even the most mundane circumstances. Add in a...
